DON’T MISS OUT ON NOTRE-DAME CATHEDRAL
PARIS EYE CANDY
If you have never been to Notre-Dame Cathedral, you are missing out ! It’s definitely one of the most beautiful monument of the Capital among The Eiffel Tower, The Sacré Coeur, The Arc de Triomphe et many others. The cathedral is situated on a small Island of Paris between Saint Michel metro station and Chatelet. When you get in front of the beautiful facade of the building you can only notice the beauty of it and … the massive queue waiting for you ^^.
My favorite part would be the small artist cabins selling paintings, books, drawings along the docks of the Seine River. It is adding a real charm and magic to the scenery.
CHANDELIERS & STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
I have to say, I usually get quite bored of visiting Churches and Cathedrals. We have thousand of them in France and they usually look very similar and not exceptionally beautiful. The only time I would take on myself to visit them is when visiting other countries. For example I loved the, what they call, “DUOMOS” in Roma. Structures and designs being so different from what we have here. I also loved “LA SAGRADA FAMILIA” in Barcelona for it’s originality and special history. So the only Cathedral that impress me in Paris or France, would be Notre-Dame.
The inside is HUGE, even though it may not look like it though pictures, and the Organ in the center of the Church is equal in size : HUGE ! It is actually know as one of the most famous organ in the world. If you have the chance to visit Notre-Dame on Sundays, you might also be able to assist to sunday services and witness one of famous Notre Dame Mass. My favorite part would, with no doubts, be the amazing Chandelier and Stained Glass Windows. In the very dark Cathedral they highlight corners and painting very nicely and you will be amazed by the beautiful colors coming out of the windows. You will also come across beautiful tombs, sculptures and many prayer room.
Entry is free but be prepared for long entry queues to have a chance to get inside the beautiful Notre-Dame Cathedral. I hope pictures below will convince you to stay in the line 😉
Gargoyles & Chimeras
If you were a fan of the Hunchback of Notre Dame Disney movie when you were young, you might remember the 3 funny friends Gargoyles of the Hunchback. To be honest, I thought they had only one purpose on the cathedral, which was adorning the Cathedral for design purpose but they actually mainly serve to drain the water away from the sides during big rainy days. Hence why they are all represented with big round open mouths.
UP, UP, UP
Now that you have visited the beautiful Cathedral’s heart, you need to visit the two towers and Ringing Bells. You might be discouraged knowing that after minutes of queuing outside to get in, you will now need to walk around the side entrance of the cathedral and take the 387 steps to admire one of the best viewing point in the city.
See gargoyles up close and enjoy the panorama over the beautiful other monuments of Paris. You might also have the chance to look closer at one of the 10 bells of Notre Dame Cathedral. Each having names (Emmanuel, Gabriel etc).
